10 years of reformer AND STUDIO 2
It’s a whole 10 years since we launched reformer Pilates at East of Eden and moved yoga up to our beautiful Studio 2. In the photo below you can just see the living wall which is still thriving a decade on, and the changing rooms and showers above are still very much in use.
Reformer moved into the original yoga studio on the left above when we moved yoga upstairs. It’s hard to believe now how few reformer studios there were back in 2016, as there has been an explosion of reformer across the country in the last few years. When we first opened the space, nobody came for at least a year, and I wondered if we’d be able to keep it running. Often I was the only person in class, and you can’t keep a whole loss-making studio running just because the owner loves it, can you?! I did realise I should probably stop describing it as ‘a bit like a medieval rack’. Eventually people started coming, and i’m so glad they did. Reformer Pilates is such an amazing way to move your body: it offers a movement modality that can help with recovery from injury, help correct postural issues, provide resistance training, balance out strength work and support you to live a life of pain free and joyful movement.
The reformers have had lots of homes at East of Eden. From the first 8 bed studio in what is now the cafe, then down the mews to number 9, now Skandihus, in 2019/20 when we did the works on the main studios. The machines then moved into what is now barre/hot for a matter of days before COVID shut us down, so in order to reopen early, we moved the whole studio into the garage for outdoor reformer in March 2021. When everything officially reopened in the May of that year, the reformers went back to Studio 3. I took the space next door in 2022, and aside from 6 weeks in RIDE early 2024 when we did up that studio, that’s been their home ever since. Check out the gallery at the bottom of the page. Do you recognise all the spaces?
After all this, getting to 10 years deserves a celebration we think. So join us for some free 30 min classes on the afternoon of Sat March 14th, all for a good cause. Seeing as the reformers have been in every studio (except Studio 2), we’ll have free classes to celebrate them in every studio, so you can choose from reformer to ride to yoga, to strength to inferno to barre to hot yoga to calisthenics. Book in for free, then if you’d like to donate to our charity partner, we’d appreciate that. Classes will be photographed, so by joining, you consent to us using the photos on our marketing material.
