East of Eden started as a small yoga studio in Walthamstow in 2015. Over time, the space grew. More classes, more people, and more ways to move. Now there are two studios, just around the corner from each other.
OUR STORY
EAST OF EDEN WAS FOUNDED BY
Abby McLachlan.
Before opening the studio, Abby worked across music, media and digital - spaces shaped by energy, rhythm and people. That still runs through everything at East of Eden, from how classes are taught to how the spaces feel.
She’s also a Mum, which informs how the studios function: flexible, realistic and built around real life rather than perfect routines.
From the beginning, it was important that the space felt inclusive. Not in a performative way, but a practical one. Different bodies, of different ages and with different entry points and at different price points. No expectation to already know what you’re doing, and no pressure to look a certain way.
You can come in, get on with it, and feel a part of something.
ONE COMMUNITY
TWO SPACES
Where most of the timetable lives. Reformer and mat Pilates, yoga, barre, Ride, hot classes, events, workshops and the East of Eden Academy. A bit of everything, all under one roof.
A second space purposefully designed for strength. Smaller and more focused, with more room to take your time and get into that kind of training properly.
OUR Values
There’s also a conscious choice behind how the business has grown. No rush to scale for the sake of it or overcomplicating the offer. No trying to be everything to everyone. Just building something that works and people want to come to.
Classes aren’t just about the programming. They’re about how a class is taught and how it feels in your body – the pacing, the music, the way the space has been designed.
What’s been built over time is something that doesn’t fit neatly into one thing. You can come for a class. Or to train properly. Or to move your body in a way that feels different to everything else you’ve tried.
And most people come back because of how it feels. Joyful, fun and genuinely supportive.
