Pilates is a method of exercise that consists of low-impact flexibility and muscular strength and endurance movements. Pilates emphasises proper postural alignment, core strength and muscle balance, and there’s a much lower chance of injury than in other exercises. Special attention is given to building core strength and improving the alignment and flexibility of the spine.
It’s great for people with certain medical conditions and for beginners and people coming back from injury. Pilates is named for its creator, Joseph Pilates, who developed the exercises in the 1920s.
